Cisco Packet Tracer is network simulator software primarily used for Cisco exam lab practice. You can use this tool to build your own network topology and practice different scenarios.
Packet Tracer was originally developed as a teaching tool for the Cisco Networking Academy, However, it is a good simulator for anyone pursuing entry-level Cisco certifications such as CCENT or CCNA.
Cisco Packet Tracer is free for all Cisco Networking Academy faculty, students, and alumni. Otherwise, you must buy it from the official Cisco website.
You need first to understand the basics of switches, routers, cables, etc. to be able to operate the Cisco Packet Tracer on your own without any assistance.
It is free for the CCNA student, as it considered as a free tool for exam preparation. Thus, if you are not CCNA student you must buy it.
